Bret Alan: Bio

CCMA

Whenever asked “Are you a country artist or a Rock artist?” Bret just laugh’s and offers up a resounding Yes! Former Lead singer and Front man for the band “Escape”… a rockin’ 80/90’s rock band that performed a tribute to Journey (and who DIDN’T love Journey) and released two albums in Canada during the bands 11 years of touring Canada and the United States. While Headlining literally hundreds of shows Bret and his Band Escape opened for many National acts during that time. After opening for Lee Arron , Bret went on to open for many of his influential bands such as Triumph, Rik Emmett, Loverboy, Meatloaf and Bob Seger to name a few. After a little time off for family & time away from the “Road” and a hectic touring schedule (as many as 231 dates in a year); Bret was re-introduced to country music. Already familiar with country greats such as Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline & Alan Jackson, Bret found himself getting very interested in the “New” country sound. Artists like Rascal Flatts, Kenny Chesney, Garth Brooks & Joe Difie quickly became influences in Brets songwriting. Combine Brets rock background influences; from Meatloaf to Seger to Skynyard / 38 Special combined with the “New” & classic country sound, shape Bret’s songwriting today. Early in 2004 Bret signed on with the “Alan Bros Band”. As the bands new Singer/ Front man guitarist, Bret penned all but one of the songs on the bands early 2006 album. Bret is enjoying two singles getting airplay “ Forest for the tree’s “ currently in rotation on XM Radio and “Nowhere to Run”. The title track from the “Alan Bros” CD “Brick by Brick” has garnered much attention from producers for Movie’s and television.
“I love writing music today more than ever. I can write songs about feelings I have, things that have happened to me, or to someone close to me. I have to experience them, feel them”. Bret is also quick to point out “I guess you could say I have to do things the hard way, find out for myself. One of the truly great things about today’s country/rock music is you CAN say I LOVE YOU in a song and it’s totally cool”. Like many of his fans, Bret grew up listening to Lynyrd Skynyrd, AC/DC, Journey, Alabama & Merle Haggard. It’s that formula of seamlessly blending the energy, sex appeal and theater of rock n roll with the emotional honesty and working class themes of country music as well as Bret’s commitment to honesty in songwriting that has helped Bret grow to the point he is at today. “Lyrically I try to deal with real life issues. If it ain’t true, or hasn’t happened to me or someone near and dear to me I don’t write it. Some people can go out there and write song after song and they’re just making it up. That just isn’t me”. After years of building momentum, Bret is shifting into overdrive this year With a Solo release, New tour and New Album “Wonderin” on Escape Records due out in late Spring. Many have inquired about songs like "Coyote Hot" and "My Summertime" being available. The wait is over... Studio versions of the songs will be on Brets New Album "Wonderin" ......... One listen and you will be able to see and hear why Bret is fast becoming one of Country /Music’s rising stars.
